Going Beyond….

By Sara Johnstone on 23.09.19

In 2018 as part of our 10th birthday celebrations, The Work Room launched Beyond to encourage, nurture and kick-start artist-initiated dance projects.

Through the generosity of our supporters and aligning the funds that we raise through our membership fees, we are now supporting our first Beyond projects. Developed by members of TWR collaborating together, these projects move beyond the studio to connect more people to dance.

Beyond recognises the role that dance artists can play as catalysts within our communities, sharing an embodied understanding of the body to influence how we can relate to one another, building cooperation and transforming imaginations.

The first three projects to be supported through Beyond are:

The Morrich Project, will see Julia McGhee and Penny Chivas collaborating in Julia’s home town of Tain in Easter Ross in the Highlands. They will engage local people of all ages in discussion and practical workshops to explore responses to RAF presence on the Morrich.

Jayne Middleton and Elaine Kordys will work together to create an on-line video resource to share their experiences of using dance and movement with early years children.

Tess Letham and Skye Reynolds are part of Something Smashing, a monthly improvisation performance event that brings together musicians and dancers. With support through from Beyond, they will be expanding the reach of this through a public workshop and performance event in Glasgow.
