Proposed Ecopedagogical Principles for a Dance Improvisational Practice by Penny Chivas is a Member-Led Event
Drawing upon her recent MEd studies, Penny will share her findings and suggestions for supporting engagement in ecological concerns in participatory dance settings with a focus upon the adult learner. This involved considering how ecological agency has been explored in the arts in the UK since the Declaration of a Climate Emergency in 2019, and unpicking the Scottish Government's 'Net Zero Nation' policy in relation to individual and group actions. As our world changes, quite plausibly, facilitators will need to reflect upon how best to support people experiencing climate distress and how the arts may well be uniquely placed to support in ways that differ to direct action.
Although this work was based in academia, Penny will present this work in a way for artists, and give time for group discussion and reflection on themes touched upon. Penny has previously presented this material at the Scottish Educational Research Association conference (SERA).
