Is dance criticism working in Scotland? - cancelled

11:00–13:00 on 20.03.20
The Hidden Garden's Boiler House, Tramway

***This event has been cancelled***

For the first of our member-led events, Róisín O'Brien will lead a discussion event, aimed at introducing and discussing with members the dance writing scene in Scotland. It will include an introduction to the scene (who/where publishes about dance, and what other writing exists apart from reviewing) and practical tips (how to get reviewers along, how to write press releases, alongside how to get into dance writing if that is of interest), before moving into a discussion around the role and ethics of dance writing. Róisín is keen to explore questions including as ‘Who are reviews for - the artist or the audience?’, ‘Are there other forms of criticism more useful for artists?’, and ‘What is the responsibility of the writer?'. She will also be available at the end of the session to speak individually to people about specific questions.

Róisín is both a dance writer and maker, currently writing for Springback Magazine, The Skinny and seeingdance.com. She is passionate about coverage of dance and hopes that an accessible, passionate, encompassing and probing journalistic approach can, among other things, open up dance to a wider audience.

We will have tea & coffee on the go and please bring along your lunch. Please let us now if you plan on coming along by emailing hello@theworkroom.org.uk
