The Work Room is partnering with Theatre & Dance Northern Ireland to offer 2 bursary places for Work Room artists on this intensive led by Oona Doherty.

Mac Arts Centre, Belfast, from 17 - 18 February 2023 | 9am – 5pm each day

ABOUT

Oona Doherty is a Northern-Irish dance artist who studied at London School Of Contemporary Dance, University Ulster and LABAN London (BA Honors and Post Graduate in Contemporary Dance Studies). Oona has been performing internationally since 2010 with companies such as TRASH (Netherlands), Abattoir Ferme (Belgium), Veronika Riz (Italy), Emma Martin/United Fall (Ireland), Enda Walsh and Landmark Productions (Ireland). Her work Hard to be Soft a Belfast Prayer was voted top UK dance show of 2019 by The Guardian. In 2021 she was awarded the La Biennale Di Venezia’s Silver Lion for dance.


The intensive will run from Friday 17th February to Saturday 18th February 2023 at the Mac Arts Centre in Belfast. 
During the intensive participants will learn ideas and material from Oona’s new show, Navy Blue. Participants will work with balletic form, flocking and ‘strings’ a form of sporadic chaos and submission.

SUPPORT

The Work Room bursary places cover the participation fee (£70 per person), plus travel and 3 nights accommodation in Belfast.  We have an access budget to support additional access requirements that people may have in order to attend and participate.

Lunch is provided by the host on each day.

This can be sent as an email (no more than a few lines/ 200 words) or a short video or audio voice notes (no longer than 3 minutes long) to applications@theworkroom.org.uk by Monday 9 January 2023, with OD Intensive in the subject line.

SELECTION PROCESS

If interest outstrips our available resources, we will give priority to members who have not benefited recently from TWR residencies, bursaries or other projects. We are only able to support those who can commit to both full days.
We aim to notify all applicants of the outcome by 16 January.

SCHEDULE

The intensive schedule is as follows:
Friday 17th February

  • 9am: Dancers arrive to studio for their own warm up.
  • 10am - 1pm: Intensive with Oona
  • 1pm - 2pm: Lunch
  • 2pm - 4pm: Intensive with Oona
  • 4pm - 5pm: Own cool down

Saturday 18th February

  • 9am: Dancers arrive to studio for their own warm up.
  • 10am - 1pm: Intensive with Oona
  • 1pm - 2pm: Lunch
  • 2pm - 4pm: Intensive with Oona
  • 4pm - 5pm: Q&A with Oona
