Body & Soul

Body & Soul is a new project for The Work Room, funded by Glasgow Community Wellbeing Fund.

ABOUT

Body & Soul will bring together a working group of members who are freelance artists based in Glasgow, to focus on their own physical well-being, develop self-care approaches and make recommendations about how we continue to embed this into The Work Room’s working practices.

This project has been developed in response to the impact of the pandemic and recognising the physical and mental strain that on-going uncertainty has on freelance workers. It is hoped that Body & Soul will give participants a space to pause and take breath at the start of a new year.

Hosted by TWR member Salma Faraji, the group will meet 6 times between January - March 2023. In these sessions, the group will share restorative movement practices, with each participant encouraged to lead or co-lead a session. We are also working with mental health specialist, Charley Gavigan (Brave Your Day) to facilitate group discussion and a 1-2-1 coaching session for each participant.

WHEN & WHERE

The first session will take place on Wednesday 18 January, 10.30 – 2pm in The Work Room studio. The timeframe, venues and schedule for further in-person sessions in Glasgow will be agreed upon between participants. Towards the end of the project, the group will host an event open to all Work Room members.

SUPPORT

There are 5-6 places available in the Body & Soul working group. Each participant will receive a bursary of £650 towards their time participating in the project. The time commitment is equivalent to 5 days over the course of the project.

We also have an access budget to support additional access costs that people may have in order to attend and participate. This could include interpretation, personal support, specific travel requirements or childcare costs.
