Ruth Walker
Ruth is a dance teacher and choreographer with a love of storytelling through movement. Stories have played a huge role in Ruth's life, either through films, books or theatre, and she is keen to understand how you can reach, engage and connect with different audiences when a narrative is communicated through dance. She is interested in both adapting existing stories in a new way and creating her own.
Her choreographic work, 'The Verdict', was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024 as part of Springboard, produced by PASS Dance. Springboard was a mixed bill of new choreographic work from recent graduates and emerging artists based in Scotland, working in dance and physical theatre. The platform was curated by a panel of artists working in the sector. In 2025, she choreographed for Action Theatre Scotland's 'Going Soft' which was also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Ruth trained at Dance Inc Studio Centre and has been teaching a variety of different styles (including hip-hop and street styles, contemporary, jazz and musical theatre) to children and adults across Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Livingston in a range of settings since 2019. Alongside teaching, she has been involved in choreographing youth theatre shows and musicals and is a member of Female Funk Fruition, a female hip-hop collective led by fellow members of The Work Room, Nadia Sewnauth and Shelltoe Mel.
After working with YDance Scotland and Scottish Ballet on multiple projects as a young person (including Project Y, Generation Dance Festival and HotHouse) Ruth joined the Board of Directors at YDance Scotland in 2024. She also worked with One Dance UK as a Dance Ambassador for 2 years, advocating for dance in all its forms and assisting with regional and national dance events and projects. Ruth is currently part of The Work Room and Barrowland Ballet's Early Career Support Artist Programme which provides artists with practical guidance, mentorship, and resources to support them in their emerging professional careers.
