Melissa Heywood

Melissa Heywood is a freelance dance artist and producer based in Edinburgh, originally from Aberdeenshire. She has trained in Contemporary Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and in Musical Theatre at The MGA Academy, she is known for her versatility and dynamic performance style, integrating text, song, and character work into her dance practice.

Melissa creates interdisciplinary work that combines dance, theatre, and filmmaking, exploring how movement can tell stories and communicate ideas and emotions in an accessible, embodied way. Her practice often responds to themes of mental wellbeing, human connection, nature, and adventure, creating work that is both intimate and socially engaged. Her work has been presented on stages, in galleries and on screens across the UK at venues and festivals.
