Melissa Heywood

Melissa Heywood is a dance artist and creator based in Edinburgh who juggles performance work and project management. Her current portfolio spans across the environmental, arts and charity sectors where she primarily supports projects with a focus on community, environmental activism, outdoor adventure, storytelling and mental health and wellbeing.

Melissa trained in London at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where she obtained a first class BA(Hons) in Contemporary Dance and in Edinburgh at The MGA Academy of Performing Arts where she was awarded a HND in Musical Theatre Performance. Melissa has performed for international audiences; from her local stages in Scotland, to the Lilian Baylis Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, the Meat Market in Melbourne, Australia and at KLAP Maison Pour La Danse in Aix-en-provence in France.

As one of the co-founders of The Grounding Project Collective Melissa creates filmic dance work. With her most recent success being the production of The Water Series, a 3 part series filmed across the UK exploring human connection to water through dance and community engagement. The films were supported by the Trinity Laban Innovation Award and the premier event raised over £850 for the charity Surfers Against Sewage.
