Kate Haughton

Kate, originally from Dublin now based in Edinburgh, is a dance artist whose priority is to create works which evoke curiosity and question the systems which dictate our lives - specifically through the lens of the contemporary dance and somatic practices. Kate completed here BA in Modern Ballet at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2014, and her MA (dist.) in Dance Performance at Trinity Laban in 2016. As a performer she has worked with Insieme Irreali, Laura Macken Dance, Transitions Dance Company, Ballet Ireland, and Scottish Ballet, and with independent choreographers Diana Loosmore, Pietro Marullo, Ania Straczynska, Lewis Normand, Theo Clinkard, Dog Kennel Hill Project. She has performed in various spaces including Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Bonnie Bird Theatre, The Gaiety Theatre and Croke Park. As a choreographer she has created her minutes, a duet based around her research into time consciousness which was performed at Emerge Festival 2018 and Dublin Culture Night 2019. Branching from this she created an interactive video our minutes with collaborator Rebecca Lee as part of the Covid-19 Response Award. She has been recipient of DLR Emerging Artist Bursary, Dance Ireland Mentorship Award, Arts Council Travel and Training and the Next Stage Bursary (Dance Ireland). She is co-founder of Meeting Another, a multimodal performance journey which intimates an individualised, collaborative experience for an audience. Kate also has a BSc (1st Class Hons) in Mathematics from the Open University, specialising in theoretical physics.
