Claire Eliza Willoughby

I am a musician, performer and theatre maker based in Glasgow. I love collaboration and play, video games, club culture, sensory experiences, queer horror, short story collections and reality tv.

I trained at Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris, and continued my learning with Angela de Castro and Spymonkey. Additional training includes the Meredith Monk Vocal Ensemble, Gob Squad, Marissa Carnesky and Company of Wolves. I am currently a Jerwood Fellow with Oily Cart and Imaginate (2020 - 2022).

My first degree was in Music (Glasgow University), where I specialised in voice. I also play the saxophone, violin, piano and accordion and like to pick up most instruments and have a go if I can. I am particularly interested in creating work that is playful, visual, and explores the live-ness of being in a room with an audience. I am co-artistic director of Snap - Elastic with Eszter Marsalko and Isy Sharman. We are an artist-led collective working to imagine and produce art that disrupts convention and celebrates life. We collaborate with exceptional artists and technicians to make Gesamtkunstwerk - a total work of art where all elements come together to create beauty.
