Children & Their Grown-Ups Showcase

10:30–11:30 on 01.10.21
Zoom Webinar

The Work Room and Imaginate are working together alongside other national partners collaborating with Pavilion Dance South West on their industry-focused Children & Their Grown-Ups. This Showcase will take place 29 September-2 October 2021 live and online.

Children and young people have been particularly badly hit by the fallout of Covid. This Showcase will open a window onto new dance work for children that is available for touring. It gives artists, companies, producers and programmers a chance to hear about the co-creation of work with children and how it’s being adapted for different touring formats.

As part of this showcase we are co-hosting a Webinar ‘Encountering Dance’ on 1st October 10.30am to 11.30am.

About Encountering Dance

In parks, through windows, on screens, through podcasts ….  audiences at the 2021 edition of the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival in May, encountered dance in many different ways and places.

In this session, some of the dance artists involved in the festival will share the approaches they took to creating work in this context and their experiences of how young audiences encountered dance. We will be in conversation with:

·       Project X (Ashanti Harris & Rhea Lewis) who presented Lovey & Boy – A Carnival Odyssey as an immersive video experience;

·       Shotput (Lucy Ireland & Jim Manganello) who in researching Untitled Discotheque Project created a podcast series for young people;

·       Suzi Cunningham & Alex McCabe who developed Buff & Sheen as a direct response to lockdown and connecting with children and families who were isolating

Chaired by Fiona Ferguson (Director of Creative Development, Imaginate)

Imaginate (producers of Edinburgh International Children’s Festival) and The Work Room often collaborate on opportunities for dance.
