Creative Residency with Tanzzentrale, Nuremberg

By The Work Room on 27.01.23

For the next two weeks, Lucy Gaizely & Gary Gardiner (21Common) will be undertaking a creative residency at Tanzzentrale through a partnership with The Work Room.

Tanzzentrale is the artistic home of freelance dance artists working in the region of Nuremberg, Germany. It offers space for production and research, for discourse, exchange and networking for the dance community and for the public. Alongside  housing rehearsals for 10-15  productions each year, the Tanzzentrale supports a regular programme of professional training and workshops.

21Common create dance that challenges the accepted and expected. Their previous work has consistently challenged the notion of who can be a dancer and has placed those that are under-represented in that role. During this residency Lucy has invited Gary - her partner of 21 years – to explore a new dance; borne of dependency, sadness, rage and grief. Lucy will attempt to manifest the trajectory of their relationship.

Recognising the synergies between our organisations, The Work Room and Tanzzentrale, this residency seeks to develop and enhance connections between dance artists from Scotland and those from the regional dance scene in Nuremberg. In March, Susanna Curtis & Nora Hensel from Tanzzentrale will visit Glasgow.

On 2nd March, we will host an event at Goethe Institut in Glasgow with Lucy & Gary, and Susanna & Nora, to share about their residency and the work of Tanzzentrale.  Look out for more details on our website & Socials.

This project is supported by the Goethe Institut in Glasgow and the International offices (twinning cities) in Nuremberg and Glasgow and by the BLZT (Bavarian Federation for Contemporary Dance).
