Our studio

The Work Room’s brand new, purpose-built studio opened its doors in January 2009. Constructed as part of the Scottish Ballet capital project within Tramway, the space was designed by Malcolm Fraser Architects, in consultation with Scotland’s independent dance community, to serve the specific needs of this fertile, multiform strand of dance.

The studio measures 21.2 x 8.2m, and the performance space is fitted with a Harlequin Tempo floor, a woodspring basketweave sprung surface particularly suited to the requirements of contemporary or barefoot dance, but which also works as a multi-purpose performance surface. One side of the floor’s length is flanked by full length mirrors, the other side by a double bar. In addition, there are fully accessible male and female toilets and wetrooms, a kitchen with microwave, kettle, fridge and crockery, and a green room with ten lockers and a changing bench.

A projector, DVD player, plasma screen. minidisc player/recorder, 8 channel sound desk and inputs for laptop and iPod are also available in the space. Filming and editing equipment is also available by arrangement.

A plan and full spec of the space is available in our Downloads section.
