Hannah Deus Draper Remote residency at the Greendykes Bings

01.11—07.12.24

In this remote residency Hannah will be continuing research at the Greendykes Bings in West Lothian. She will be exploring if there are possibilities to resist and change the perceived notion of ‘deadness’ within this post-industrial site and wasteland through slowing movement practices and developing scores such as ‘score for the heart’. These will build on artist John Latham’s work at the site in the 1970’s which labelled the different bings as body parts.

Through walking, dancing, running, falling and resting at the site alongside deep listening and somatic practices, Hannah will investigate how these ways of being might inform knowledge about the site and how we might be able to resist and repair its extractive history.

Spending time at the site will also allow Hannah to engage with the community there, talking to people walking at the site and the community of dirt bikers that regularly use it, building the social engagement of the project. As part of this residency, Hannah has also invited Emily Nicholl to join as photographer/collaborator, Hamshya Rajkumar as an outside eye/collaborator and has spent time at the site with Luke Pell while in their role as Artist Support Programme Facilitator at TWR.
