17—18.10.21

Oxana Banchshikova & Kirsten Newell are undertaking a joint remote research process supported by an Artist Research Bursary

Their research will take place between September and December 2021.

Oxana and Kirsten say:

"We are two Edinburgh based dancers, both mothers constantly juggling work and family. The Artist Research Bursary funding from Work Room will help us to reflect on our previous project MaMa; a motherhood inspired dance film explored themes of pregnancy and early motherhood.

Now, when there is hope for venues to open soon, we would like to research how to move MaMa forward as a theatre dance piece. Live dance performance will bring out so much more from this underrepresented subject and we hope it will be inspiring for parents finding their way back into normal life after lockdown."

The Artist Research Bursaries are a programme of support introduced by The Work Room in response to the ongoing and precarious position of freelance dance artists during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly artist members who are facing new or heightened barriers to accessing a studio practice. The bursary awards support members with flexible, remote research time to sustain and deepen their artistic practice in these uncertain times. The support is offered without a required outcome although The Work Room will support members to share or disseminate research where appropriate.
