Malcolm Sutherland Lost for Words
During the residency, choreographer Malcolm Sutherland (He/Him) will be working on the duet Lost for Words. Originally created for Resolution festival in 2018, the residency will be spent reviving the work with a new cast to prepare for a performance at Front@ festival in Slovenia at the end of August.
A physical manifestation of the feeling of being lost for words, unable to produce speech or to find words to express a current state of emotion. We are all familiar with this sensation, of not being able to communicate through verbal language what we want to express. The feeling of there being no constellation of words that can possibly express your inner state. Searching around in the depths of ourselves for what to say but unable to find it anywhere. This emotional and physical duet follows the story of a woman who has been waiting for a very long time, repeating the same routine day after day, waiting for something. One day it will finally meet her, but she will not be able to recognize it for what she has wanted all her life, too consumed by the waiting by which her life is now defined. This floundering anti-climax of her expectations, unable to be realized after a lifetime of anticipation, will find her at a loss for words, incapable of expressing everything she has ever wanted.
