Jusztina Hermann Jusztina Hermann- Artist Research Bursary

31.10—06.11.21

Jusztina Hermann is undertaking a remote research process supported by an Artist Research Bursary

Her research will take place between October 2021 and February 2022.

Jusztina says: "The Artist Bursary will go towards research on my new performance idea “Grounded”, a show about a couple of redundant flight attendants trying to find purpose in life without flying. The show will be based on how our life changed due to Covid-19, the impossibility of starting a new career after investing so much into one we truly love, and the effects of the conscious decisions and sacrifices we all need to make in the face of climate change. The theme is a metaphor for the arts as well as something everyone can relate to due to the current travel restrictions.

The theme resonates with me as an artist (as I think with many) as due to Covid-19 I seriously had to consider starting a new career. Thanks to the Artist Bursary I can carry on doing what I love and I'm good at, and I get to work with a couple of collaborators to incorporate their expertise in the research for Grounded."

The Artist Research Bursaries are a programme of support introduced by The Work Room in response to the ongoing and precarious position of freelance dance artists during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly artist members who are facing new or heightened barriers to accessing a studio practice. The bursary awards support members with flexible, remote research time to sustain and deepen their artistic practice in these uncertain times. The support is offered without a required outcome although The Work Room will support members to share or disseminate research where appropriate.
