Jian Yi Jian Yi - Artist Research Bursary & Time Away

06—10.11.20

Jian Yi is undertaking a remote research process supported by an Artist Research Bursary. Jian Yi will also spend Time Away in Nethy Bridge as part of their supported research time, to develop their enquiries amongst the rich and peaceful landscape of the Cairngorm mountains.

Jian says: "My research activity sits within a wider producing project exploring Eastern Mysticism in contemporary dance practice, that aims to bring about more representation, community awareness and topical appreciation of non-Western performance styles in dance.

As part of that research, I have been developing an outdoor work, a socially-distanced performance intervention titled 'Weathervanes' – a contemporary pagan ritual, the work is an offering to the sky involving an ensemble of (non-gender conforming, queer and POC) dancers performing from the rooftops."

**due to travel restrictions between Glasgow and Nethy Bridge this Time Away has been post poned**

The Artist Research Bursaries are a new strand of support introduced by The Work Room in response to the ongoing and precarious position of freelance dance artists during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly artist members who currently experience barriers to returning to studio practice. The bursary awards support members with flexible, remote research time to sustain and deepen their artistic practice in these uncertain times. The support is offered without a required outcome although The Work Room will support members to share or disseminate research where appropriate.
