Fleur Darkin ITHACA R&D

23.09—04.10.24

Fleur Darkin & Francesco Ferrari

During the residency we will be focusing on the physical and theatrical language of our work-in-progress, ITHACA.

Born from Darkin and Ferrari’s desire to evolve their collaboration as co-devisors of live theatre, ITHACA is a live puzzle between the figure of Ulysses/Francesco - the wandering hero – and Athena/Fleur  - the divine presence.  The work spirals around these two co-dependent characters, their intimacy and distance and the power dynamics between the mortals and the gods, dancers and choreographers.

The classical and contemporary worlds collide, played out in the less obviously heroic realities of a life in the arts, including auditions, visa applications, leaving home, battling the constant tension between freedom and stability.

From our fractured present, ITHACA is an attempt to turn to the larger world of European mythology, in the hope of finding answers to the bigger questions. Where are we going? What are we here for? What should we love?

>Company class is open to members and will be held Mon - Wed each week 10am to 11am led by Amy Hollinshead - see more.
