Emma Jayne Park is undertaking a remote research process supported by an Artist Research Bursary

Emma says: "Following a recent diagnosis with Fibromyalgia, the TWR Artist's Bursary could not come at a better time.  It will give me the opportunity to question what rhythm of practice best serves my health, what a physical practice looks like for me now and how this can adapt to a body in flux. I will use this period to work remotely where I have all of the resources I need to manage my health and a different kind of space to move in.  Further to this, the bursary will enable a series of conversations with artists who live with chronic pain and chronic health conditions that impact how they work, creating a chance to understand how others work, what tools would compliment my own practice and developing shareable processes for collaboration with artists who live with chronic pain."

The Artist Research Bursaries are a new strand of support introduced by The Work Room in response to the ongoing and precarious position of freelance dance artists during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly artist members who currently experience barriers to returning to studio practice. The bursary awards support members with flexible, remote research time to sustain and deepen their artistic practice in these uncertain times. The support is offered without a required outcome although The Work Room will support members to share or disseminate research where appropriate.
