Dana MacPherson

Dana is undertaking a remote residency on the Isle of Skye developing new work - RÈITE.

A solo vertical dance on the Inaccessible Pinnacle, Sgurr Dearg.
Rèiteach - disentangling of fishing or sailing lines / can also mean to reconcile / or level place
Translation taken from Seòras Chaluim Sheòrais - Muir is Tìr, p49

Rèite explores narratives of freedom through conquering physical and psychological fears and how this process contributes to confidence building and self trust - enabling us to show up in the world from a safe inner terrain. ‘When do we stop surviving and start living? How do we do this…how does it feel?’. What metaphorical and real, loving containers do we need to feel safe and free at the same time? Tethered by a single rope to the infamous In Pinn, Dana will explore personal narratives in relation to land, ancestry and belonging. The aim is to film over the Celtic festival - Imbolc. When we turn from the dark towards the light.

In collaboration with harpist Esther Swift this one week remote residency will lay the foundation for a screendance production in the Cuillin Mountains, on the Isle of Skye. Research and development will happen on the mountain and in a local village hall. With a demo of a new musical score being developed in Esther’s home studio in Edinburgh.

Being on the In Pinn is possible by support from local Skye mountain guide Mike Lates and local photographer and drone artist Jordan Young. Thanks also goes to Skye Circus Skills.
