International
Deadline: 15.11.2021
Published: 01.11.2021

International tanzmesse nrw is the world’s largest showcase of contemporary dance and will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany from 31 Aug to 3 Sep 22.

While the pandemic and Brexit, continue to present challenges in working internationally, The Work Room remains committed to international exchange and in working with dance artists to place their work in a wider context beyond Scotland. Our role in co-ordinating Dance from Scotland at International tanzmesse nrw is part of this. We are working alongside partners Dance 4 & National Dance Company of Wales to co-ordinate UK presence.

International tanzmesse showcase 2022 is under new leadership of Co-Directors Katharina Kucher & Isa Köhler, working alongside four new Associate Curators - Julia Asperska, Dan Daw, Quito Tembe and Natacha Melo.

This next edition focuses primarily on networking, the exchange of knowledge and discussion among dance professionals. Three sections set the frame of international tanzmesse nrw:

  • Agora (Exhibition space)
  • Talk & Connect
  • Performance Programme

Submitting an artistic programme proposal:

tanzmesse is currently accepting proposals from interested dance artists and companies  to present work as part of the 2022 showcase. This can include live performance, digital, site specific and outdoor, or to pitch projects in development. For the first time, tanzmesse are committed to including work for young audiences in their performance programme.

All submissions must be made through a registered exhibition space. Dance artists and companies from Scotland can submit a proposal through the Dance from Scotland exhibition space. The Work Room will cover the €25 submission fee.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal through the Dance from Scotland exhibition space, please email sara@theworkroom.org.uk with some information on the proposal you wish to submit. We will then co-ordinate with you so you receive an invitation to submit a proposal through the Dance from Scotland exhibition space

Tanzmesse deadline is 9am, Monday 15 November 2021

Please be aware that internationale tanzmesse do not pay any fees or expenses to artists or companies who present in the showcase. In previous years, Scottish companies and artists have been successful in securing funding through Creative Scotland’s Open Fund towards the costs of participating.

Please see the Tanzmesse 2022 Information Guide for full details about applying including support available for successful proposals. The Work Room is not involved in the selection process and acts only as exhibition space host for Scotland.
