Artist Residency Programme—Call Out: January – June 2026

Residencies
Deadline: 12.11.2025
Published: 06.10.2025
Applications are closed for this residency opportunity.

Note: Due to an email server issue which impacted our emails from around 5 pm on Monday 10 November, the deadline for submissions has been extended until 9 am on Wednesday 12 November.

At the heart of The Work Room (TWR) is our programme of supported, choreographic residencies. These are for members to explore ideas and projects through experimentation and creative processes, from research through to production, according to the needs and requirements of each artist.

Founded 17 years ago by artists whose practices and perspectives reflect the diversity of what dance and human experience can be, our core values are Generosity, Inclusion and Experimentation. The Work Room is committed to ensuring an expansive range of artists and artistic practices are resourced and recognised across all our work.

Residencies - Studio, Remote or Flexible

This call out welcomes proposals for studio residencies in our purpose built studio space in Tramway, Glasgow, and proposals for remote or alternative residency approaches, such as those undertaken ‘at home’, outdoors, or in spaces closer to where you live, or residency time that is flexible around caring responsibilities and other commitments.

See more about our studio space here → The Work Room Studio Facilities

See some examples of members who have undertaken remote or flexible residencies here → (Amy Robertson, Alena Ageeva, Gail Sneddon)

Residencies are allocated in week blocks (or flexible equivalent days) with a bursary of £750 per week. There is additional budget for personal access costs.

Residencies are typically awarded for 1 or 2 week periods, however members can apply for residencies up to 4 weeks, or flexible approaches to working patterns.

Eligibility

This call out is only open to current members of The Work Room. Find out more about membership here.

Members who have been awarded a residency in the previous round may still apply, although equitable allocation of resources between members will be considered by the panel when making the final selections.

Peer Selection Process

The Work Room uses a peer-selection process for awarding residencies. We do this through a panel of artist members who review and discuss all applications in line with the assessment criteria, collectively put forward a selection of proposals for residencies, and offer feedback on all applications.

If you are interested in taking part in the residency selection panel, please email producer@theworkroom.org.uk
The panel will take place w/c 24 Nov and members are paid for their time.

Note: members submitting an application or involved as a key collaborator in a proposal for a residency cannot sit on the selection panel.
