Nicole Meehan awarded Birds of Paradise shadowing opportunity

Following a selection process Nicole Meehan has been awarded the movement director shadowing opportunity with Birds of Paradise.

In August 2019, Birds of Paradise Theatre Company is reviving the acclaimed production of Purposeless Movements for performances as part of Edinburgh International Festival.

Four men stand on stage. They have cerebral palsy. When they were born, doctors called their condition ‘purposeless movements’. For them, it’s just how they move.

Purposeless Movements is a dance theatre work directed by BOP’s Artistic Director, Robert Softley Gale with Movement and Associate Director, Rachel Drazek.

We are collaborating with BoP to give Nicole the opportunity to shadow the re-staging of this work. She will spend 10 days with the company during their rehearsal period in Glasgow from 29 July – 17 August, with performances at EIF 19 – 24 August.

Nicole says:

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for this opportunity to work with Birds of Paradise as an Intern Movement Director on their show Purposeless Movements. I am looking forward to learning more about movement direction as well as integrating BSL and inclusive practices within the creative development process. I am excited to see the final product come together as part of the Edinburgh International Festival.”
