Moving Out - Four Corners

By Kate E Deeming on 27.09.19

The Work Room and Tramway are collaborating for Dance International Glasgow (DiG) 2019 to support two choreographers to expand their practice through adapting work for public sites and outdoor contexts in Pollokshields during DiG.

Kate E Deeming, one of the artsits awarded has been developing "Four Corners".

"Four Corners" is workshops, dance happenings, and an exhibition in the neighbourhood of East Pollokshields facilitated by Dance Activist Kate E. Deeming. Since the start of September and running through October Kate E. dances Monday-Thursday mornings (school days only) between 8-9am around Maxwell Square Park (often joined by locals), she is activating outdoor dance with over 500 children in the local primary schools (St. Alberts, Pollokshields Primary, Glendale English & Glendale Gaelic), on the 7 & 9 October she will be taking the children into the community of Pollokshields ‘to do’ their dances which will be witnessed by passers by and documented by photographer Basharat Khan. On the 20 October these photographs will be launched in the 'Pollokshields Art Museum’ our on street shop front art gallery. Everyone is welcome to come to Maxwell Square Park at our launch event where dancing will happen (of some description), and maps & goodie bags will be handed out for folks to explore our wonderful dancing community.

Four Corners celebrates the idea that although we come from many different geographical, political, social, and cultural spaces we can always find ways to move together and celebrate!
