BEYOND WINTER AWARD 2024
The Work Room is pleased to announce the final member-led project awarded seed funding from BEYOND in the 2024 funding cycle.
In December 2024, we held the fourth and final awards draw of BEYOND in the 2024 funding cycle, to select a recipient of the BEYOND Winter Award 2024.
Beyond is a seed funding initiative, which aims to nurture, support and kick start artist-led projects and practices that take dance beyond the studio to connect more people to dance, while also fostering collaboration and artistic community within TWR membership.
Piloting a first round in 2018, Beyond was relaunched in May 2022 following a period of consultation with a working group of members, to redesign the fund and experiment with different processes of decision-making, adopting a random selection process for awarding funds. BEYOND is now in its third round of seed funding funding.
The Beyond Winter Award 2024 was made following a peer review process by members Katie Miller & Carmen Berbel Lapaz, who checked the EOIs against the fund’s eligibility criteria, shared some responses and thoughts on the proposals to support their onward journey, and witnessed the random selection process to confirm its legitimacy.
We are happy to announce the project selected in this round is ‘South Asian Dance Festival’ by Nikhita Devi, Oxana Banshikova & Prathiksha Ravoor!
" Over the past two years we have regularly been coming together as a collective of South Asian Dance practitioners, to share practice and support each other. Since we began meeting, we have been discussing putting on an event or festival to share our art with local communities.
With support from BEYOND, we plan to host a fun and welcoming taster event, sharing our love for South Asian Arts through a day of open level workshops, performances and conversation, which will introduce participants to a range of South Asian music and dance styles. We hope to seed relationships and encourage interest and excitement in South Asian dance, with the hope of building our community and delivering a South Asian Dance Festival in the future. "
As ever, we are grateful to all our members who took the time and creativity to share an idea in their EOI for Beyond and participate in the selection process. The Beyond Winter Award 2024 was the last awards draw of this funding cycle. BEYOND is now closed and will be paused to allow us to re-accrue funds before another round of funding can be made available. Thank you to all members who submitted proposals to BEYOND.
