Vicki Manderson

I am a movement director, dancer and actor. I trained as a dancer at The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance in Dundee and London Contemporary Dance School and have worked professionally in theatre and dance for the past 15 years, performing all over the world with companies such as Bare Bones Dance Company, Protien Dance, Frantic Assembly, Grid Iron and The National Theatre of Scotland. I was Associate Movement Director on ‘Blackwatch’, ‘Let The Right One in’ and ‘In Time of Strife’ for National Theatre of Scotland and ‘The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night time’ for National Theatre of Great Britain.

For the past few years I have worked almost exclusively as a Movement Director for companies around the UK and beyond. These include National Theatre of Scotland, The Royal Exchange Manchester, The Abbey Theatre, The Royal Court and The Young Vic.

In 2019 groupwork was launched, a collaboration between myself and co director Finn den Hertog. Our first piece ‘The Afflicted’ premiered at Edinburgh Fringe as part of the Made in Scotland showcase. The show was awarded The Scottish Arts Award and a Fringe First. Alongside this groupwork was in The Lists Hot 100 2019.

My practice as a choreographer varies depending on the project but what I'm always interested in is how bodies can tell stories. Collaboration is key to my work, be that with designers, writers, musicians or directors.
