Ruth Kent

Ruth is a contemporary dance artist based in Aberdeenshire. She has been moving and making for over 25 years, while leading on a range of participatory programmes for people of all age and abilities. She directed Quicksilver (elders company) and Step Forward (inclusive company) and currently leads Dance North Youth Company. She conceived, choreographed and produced a piece for children and families - Made to Measure - which delighted audiences in the north east.

Her work extends across Facilitating, Performing, Creating, Producing and Directing.
Trained at Trinity Laban, Ruth’s practise is informed by Cunningham and Release techniques, Yoga, Improvisation and lived experience.
Living rurally, she is inspired and influenced by the natural world, while drawing upon inner emotional landscapes and sensory experiences. She is fascinated by the idea of the body as home and often works in the context of arts and health.

In 2019, Ruth founded the Mothers of Invention collective with a group of female artists. Together they created site specific performances in surprising locations including a stately home, derelict swimming pool, and wild spaces out of doors, presented at Experimental Use of Space.

She has danced in works by Alan Greig, Ian Spink, Jack Webb, Fleur Darkin, Lovisa Osk Gunnarsdottir, and Dudendance; recently performing in Jacob Boehme’s Guuranda, a celebration indigenous Australian culture. Ruth is keen to expand her performance experience while collaborating with other artists.
