Rachel Laird

I have a post graduate diploma from Copenhagen Contemporary Dance School in 2018 after graduating with a BA (HONS) from Trinity Laban. Based between Scotland and London. I am interested in communication and how that plays a part in society. Whether that is through movement or language. Using improvisation, physical theatre, poetry and contact work to try relate and portray my experiences to others.

Since being freelance I have performed for Garsington Opera in Eugene Onegin, The English National Opera in Orphée, Peut-Être Theatre (children's dance theatre) touring their work SHH...Bang! And Tidy Up to China, Roisin O'Brien in A Falling Ballet, The Natashas Project and A Truefitt Collective.
In 2019 I co-founded the company Sliding Doors Collective with fellow Scot Clara Cowen. Sliding Doors as a company creates work where text is integral to the practice, allowing an unanimous celebration of life’s chances, whether or not we choose to take them. Inspired by our collective experiences our aim is to create work that everyone can access. No previous dance experience necessary. Our first work "Penthouse Hickies" made its debut at Dance Base during the Edinburgh Fringe '19, followed by performances in London including Rising Tides and Resolution Festival '20 at The Place, Dance Live at CityMoves '20 and Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival '20 - where we received a micro commission. In 2021 Sliding Doors received an IGNITE award from Trinity Laban and undertook a residency.
