Rachel Laird

I have a post graduate diploma from Copenhagen Contemporary Dance School after graduating with a BA (HONS) from Trinity Laban. I am interested in communication and using improvisation, physical theatre, poetry and contact work to try relate and portray my experiences to others.

Since being freelance I have worked for several companies including Next Door Dance, Highly Sprung, Garsington Opera, The English National Opera, Peut-Être Theatre, Tess Letham Dance, Roisin O'Brien Dance, Levantes Dance Theatre and Page One Theatre.

In 2019 I co-founded Sliding Doors Collective. As a company we create work where text is integral to the practice, allowing an unanimous celebration of life’s chances, whether or not we choose to take them. Inspired by our collective experiences our aim is to create work that everyone can access. Our first work 'Penthouse Hickies' made its debut at Dance Base during the Ed Fringe '19, followed by performances in London including Rising Tides and Resolution '20 at The Place. Since the pandemic SDC have done 2 residencies at Citymoves, a residency at Trinity Laban, performed at DanceLive and D&G Arts online festival (micro commission) and received an IGNITE award from Trinity Laban. As of '22 SDC have received ACE funding and will complete an R&D for PHAOF film.
