Nichelle Santagata
Nichelle Santagata's practice involves dancing and movement through the umbrella of Hip Hop and Contemporary, which many times incorporates her prose-poetry; fiction; nonfiction writings and spoken word as well as additional sound arts, music, photography, film, and illustration. Speaking through her multitude of different forms and non-forms of art helps her expand and evolve while living as a Black Indigenous Multiracial-Multiethnic Disabled and Neurodivergent Woman, as she navigates through a world consisting of a range of complex social, political, and economic issues.
Nichelle's practice is about exploring and sharing stories of needing to move with true Liberation physically, mentally, emotionally, culturally, and Spiritually. Her work spans across many topics including: the depths and complexities of identity, navigating the journey of healing and health, what 'Home' means as a physical place and within the Bodymind, and much more.
Nichelle has shared her works across the globe with some places such as: Push the Boat Out Edinburgh's International Poetry Festival (2021), Govanhill International Festival (2021), BBC Words First x Neu! Reekie! (2021), Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (2021), and Scottish BPOC Writers Network (2021-2023).
Nichelle is currently pursuing her PhD in Sociology focusing on Black Women's mental health and healing through arts-based methods and autoethnography. Her academic institution work interconnects to her arts and social sciences outside of academic institutions, where a branch of her ethos involves self-reclamation and self-documentation while navigating around different other people's gazes. She is from so-called Arizona, United States currently based in Scotland.
Please contact Nichelle by her email address to discuss creations and projects, thank you.
