Mhari Baxter

At the heart of my practice is embodied listening with nature, my-self and others.

Currently I am interested in the inter-relationship with my body, blood and the cycles of nature. I am exploring the journey and language of menstrual blood from womb to paper to nature. The blood takes on a new form from the movement and impulses in my body as I create paintings and movement scores inside and outside. Developing this intimate relationship with my body each month inspires me into new ways of working. Each month the blood has a different quality and personality. It is so alive. Each cycle is different. I hope my work begins to release the stigma of all things menstrual and encourages other women and those who menstruate to feel the power of their womb and the infinite possibilities of creativity there.

Inspirational to my practice has been my creative movement work with people who are deaf blind at Sense Scotland where I became aware of an infinite inner landscape and the landscape of touch.

Workshops and training have further expanded my movement practice and sense of interbeing.
