Monica’s performance and dance practice draws from a variety of Somatic Movement Practices and performing disciplines including Contemporary Dance, Improvisation, Physical Theatre, Balinese traditional dance. Monica develops her work in different site-specific settings and her style refers to Third Theatre and body-mind approaches. Her strong interest is to perform in informal contexts with a real interaction with the audience. Through performance she aims to bring to light the connection between a contingent and intimate individual experience with the universal and timeless dramaturgy of us humans. Monica continually deepens her knowledge of the body, movement, voice, rhythm, and performance. She is interested in research, experimentation, and the fusion of cultures and traditions through theatre practice. Monica has a PhD Environmental Science and a PDA in Arts Education in Practice. She is certified Infant developmental Movement educator (IDME) at Embody-Move (London). She trained independently in Contemporary Dance, Improvisation and Physical Theatre including ODIN Teatret (Denmark) and Julie Stanzack (Wuppertal Tanztheater of Pina Bausch). She has extensive experience in environmental arts, and wellbeing related projects in schools and the community. Monica is training in Somatic Movement Education with Embody-Move, licensed by The School for Body-Mind Centering.
