Laura Gonzalez
My practice is performative, using body and voice to create live art works, with a strong visual component (from live painting, photographs, to video or staging). The subject matter of my works relates to the medical humanities: my source material is historic medical texts or case histories, which I translate into performance. I dance contemporary Graham and release, I am a yoga and pranayama teacher and also create works on breath. I was co-director of @TheGlasgowJam from 2016 to 2018. I am also a writer and author of 'Madness, Women and the Power of Art' (Interdisciplinary Press, 2013), 'Make Me Yours: How Art Seduces' (Cambridge Scholars, 2016) and 'The Hysteric (Routledge, 2023) . I am an Athenaeum Research Fellow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I am currently developing a work on illegitimate forms of knowledge such as intuition, magic and oracles.
