Jo Lindsay

Jo (she/they) is a queer, non-binary dance artist currently working between Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. They are interested in experimenting with varied practices such as: screendance, site-specific and outdoor performance, interdisciplinary/multi-media collaborations, dance theatre, and community and participatory dance. Her latest project involved collaboration with new media artist, Lyra Sands, to investigate methods of facilitating accessible movement practice using sensory props and technology, with plans to continue this research further in the future. Having returned to dance training later in life, Jo has a firm belief that dance can be for everyone and is keen to encourage people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to get involved in creative movement practice.

Additionally, with a previous BSc in Zoology and a background working in wildlife conservation, Jo maintains their keen interest in nature and the environment, with a desire to incorporate influences from these areas into their practice. In particular, she is keen to explore human relationships with and connections to nature, and how movement can help to deepen that connection between ourselves, our bodies and our natural environment.

Jo graduated in 2024 with a first-class BA (hons) from The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, prior to which she trained for three years at Dance Studio Scotland in Glasgow. As well as currently working for Shaper/Caper in Dundee, Jo has also been part of Dance Base’s 2024-2025 DEBS program, a fantastic opportunity which has allowed them to continue developing technical and performance skills, meet like-minded dance artists and pursue her own creative interests.
