James Cale

Their work is rooted in growing up queer and neurodiverse in a small industrial town. They developed their first works during their studies, placing the banal and liminal conditions of online life against the vibrancy of Earth. In this body of work, they dissected the flora and fauna of distinct biomes into files, shards, and dust to assemble atmospheric works.

Their practice spans performance, choreography, text, image, and video, seeking collaborators from the worlds of fashion, music and lighting/FX. Sparse scenographic environments, chance encounters, and low-resolution aesthetics underpin their work, alongside a surrealist, confessional writing practice that provides poetic containers to work with.
