Isabella Zych-Watson

I am a queer dance artist specialising in classical and contemporary styles. My experience in the classical ballet world informs a lot of my work, as well as being the launchpad of my creative journey; breaking the expressive boundaries and binary constraints I felt in that environment. Sustainability and authenticity is now the focus of my creative work after having professional experience in a particular area of the dance world where those were not seen as important and the effects of that mentality eventually led to me taking a break from dance all together for a couple of years.
I am now focusing on finding my identity in the creative world as a human who dances rather than a "dancer" - expressive movement is one of the most human experiences we have, it seems nonsensical to erase the raw individuality that makes us artists. As the world advances technologically, and we move further away from innate human connection and community practices, I want my work to emulate humanity and to connect people.
