Christiano Mere
My practice is grounded in movement, embodied knowledge, and inherited memory, developing largely outside academic or strictly institutional frameworks. Working across performance, collaboration, and grassroots organising, I draw from Afro-Brazilian traditions and contra-colonial methodologies to explore the body as a site of memory, resistance, and collective exchange. Much of my current work takes shape through Ponta-Cabeça, an ongoing project that builds connections between Brazilian cultures of resistance and the Scottish context. Alongside this, my continued practice of capoeira informs the way I approach movement as a space of improvisation, ritual, listening, and shared experience. Through these processes, I organise and facilitate grassroots movement gatherings within Glasgow’s independent arts community. (pontacabeca.co.uk)
Collaboration is central to my practice. Recent projects include Anticlockwise, developed with Tsoi Huen during a residency with The Work Room. The project explored movement as a form of communication beyond spoken language, using gesture, rhythm, and bodily negotiation to create forms of exchange rooted in presence and improvisation.
Across my work, performance functions not only as artistic expression, but also as a form of collective support and shared inquiry. I am interested in creating spaces where movement can hold memory, transmit knowledge, and open deeper conversations around anti-colonial and contra-colonial practices.
