Bex Anson

Originally trained as a painter, Bex Anson is a Glasgow-based artist whose practice explores expanded choreography through visual composition and site-responsive performance. Inspired by urban ecologies, she develops choreographic processes that emerge through participation.

Recent works include DIVE, a site-responsive performance created in Kingarth Lane, drawing on the social history of Govanhill Baths and the Battle of Calder Street; FLOCK, a participatory outdoor dance intervention inspired by the sociality of urban birds; STRUT Kids, a series of movement laboratories developed with children in schools across Scotland; and RUINS, an interdisciplinary performance combining dance and digital scenography, inspired by Donna Haraway's Staying with the Trouble.

She is also a member of EXPERTS, an experimental performance group with Shona Macnaughton and Isabella Zych-Watson. Inspired by bouffon, they create chaotic performance worlds of failing authority figures, macho theatricality and emotional collapse.

Bex is currently Artist in Residence and Guest Lecturer on the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's BA Arts with Communities programme. Alongside this, she works with schools, youth organisations, housing associations and community groups, using facilitation as a form of artistic research into collective forms of making.

From 2015–2025, Bex was co-artistic director of Megahertz Scenography with AV artist and designer Dav Bernard. Together they created visual theatre performances combining digital scenography, dance and circus. Productions including RUINS, STRUT, STRUT Kids, KID_X, Crowd CTRL, Liquid Sky and VOID toured nationally and internationally, receiving Total Theatre and Made in Scotland Awards.

Their work has been presented at Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, Birmingham International Dance Festival, Take Me Somewhere (Glasgow), Govanhill International Festival & Carnival, Glasgow Women's Library, Dance International Glasgow (DIG), Present Futures, Submerge Digital Arts Festival, Manipulate Festival, Citymoves, Spraoi International Street Arts Festival. She is the recipient of a Stomping Ground Commission (2022), the Four Nations Outdoor Arts Bursary (2023), and Total Theatre and Made in Scotland Awards.

Before Megahertz, Bex co-curated the artist-run gallery LOWSALT, was a founding artist of 85A Collective, and directed large-scale productions with Bassline Circus.
