Argyro Tsampazi

Argyro Tsampazi is a dance researcher and choreographer based in Edinburgh. Her research sits at the intersection of choreographic practices, religion, and spirituality. She obtained her PhD in Dance at Queen’s University Belfast which was a practice-as-research project investigating the effects of the application of Orthodox ascetic practices to choreographic processes and dance performance. She holds an MA in Choreography from Fonty's University in The Netherlands, a BA in Theology from Aristotle University in Greece, and a BA in Dance Teaching from the Greek Ministry of Culture.

She has worked as a dancer and dance teacher extensively throughout her career across Europe and the UK. She has taught contemporary dance, choreography, movement improvisation, ballet, repertoire, and dance for people with learning difficulties in various settings such as universities, private dance schools, youth dance companies, and community organisations. She was the founding artistic director and main choreographer of the 'Dance Promotion Company' - a professional company attached to the dance school 'Chorochoros' in Thessaloniki, Greece. Alongside her artistic career she has also held various other roles such as Dance Expert for the European Commission, Research Assistant and Project Manager across various funded research at Queen's University Belfast, and Artistic Assessor for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Currently, she is working as an independent dance researcher and choreographer and is developing further her choreographic method, involving the use of hypnosis and of new rituals -religious, spiritual, and vernacular.
