Towards an archive for Scottish contemporary dance
The Work Room
Friday 21 June | 4:15 - 5:30 pm | The Work Room
Scotland’s contemporary dance sector is diverse, experimental, and thriving, with strong international links, a regular programme of performances and festivals, and well-established relationships with the disabled community, refugee communities, health and social care partnerships and youth groups. Yet Scotland’s dance history records are diffusely dispersed – film and photographic material, choreographic scores, performance programmes, and critical reviews are spread between private collections, arts organisations, and library collections.
You are invited to join an open session to discuss possibilities for an archive of dance in Scotland, supported by the University of Edinburgh. Dancers, choreographers, arts professionals, archivists, and audience members are all welcome to share their memories and expertise, to discuss the priorities and challenges of collecting choreography, and to create a cross-country network aimed at preserving the history of Scottish contemporary dance.
