Something Smashing at Maryhill Burgh Halls

13:00–15:00 on 19.09.21
10-24 Gairbraid Avenue Glasgow, G20 8YE

As part of Glasgow Doors Open Day Festival 2021

Sunday 19 September 1- 3pm

Join us for a day of improvised dance and music as Edinburgh based collective Something Smashing will be taking over Maryhill Burgh Halls for an afternoon of pop-up performance. Throughout the afternoon visitors will be treated to playful sets of live music and dance as they explore the newly refurbished & dramatically re-imagined Halls.

Something Smashing have been programming events of exuberant improvised sound and movement since 2017. Because both dancers and musicians improvise but rarely together, organisers Tess Letham, Alma Lindenhovius Skye Reynolds and Graeme Wilson invite movement artists and musicians from Scotland’s flourishing improv scene for spontaneous encounters to experiment with each other’s practice. These uncertain and energetic sessions push performers beyond their everyday styles; the exhilaration of movement simultaneously shaping and shaped by sound makes them a magnet for audiences seeking surprise. During lockdown Something Smashing explored online interaction, but through summer they begun improvising together in the open air, and now they are venturing back indoors for Glasgow Doors Open Day!

This event is co-hosted by The Work Room & Maryhill Burgh Halls.

Popping up between 1pm and 3pm, drop in – no booking necessary
