Join Serge Arthur Dodo for an Afro-contemporary class and a workshop on ‘The Rite of Spring’ repertoire (Pina Bausch).
During the class, you will be guided through Afro-contemporary warm up and exercises, and will explore Serge’s unique style that combines traditional ivorian dance and contemporary dance practices.
During the workshop, you will go over part of ‘The Rite of Spring’ repertoire, learning from Serge's experience and interpretation of this classic Pina Bausch’s piece.
ABOUT
Serge Arthur Dodo is a choreographer and dance artist from Ivory Coast who first started in street dance competitions.
After graduated with an art degree in Ivory Coast, Serge joined the renowned ‘Ecole des sables’ in Senegal to complete his training and had the opportunity to learn from Germaine Acogny, the mother of African contemporary, Andrea Boll, Gilles Jobin, Gabriel Smeets, Patrick Acogny and Nora Chipaumire (USA - Zimbabwe).
He is the artistic director and choreographer of his own dance company called King’Art and has developed several pieces with his company in the last decade, as well as choreographing for TV shows such as ‘The Voice Afrique Francophone’ and ‘The Voice Kids Africa’. He was a lecturer of Afro-contemporary classes at the University AHK of Amsterdam in the Expanded Contemporay Dance department between 2018-2020.
Serge is currently a member of the international African cast that reinterprets Pina Bausch’s piece ‘The Rite of Spring’ (collaboration between Pina Bausch foundation, Ecole des Sables and Sadler’s Wells).
