Rosalind Masson joins us as guest artist for two Professional Contemporary classes this week.
Each class might include a session investigating different topics such as: the different layers of use in gazes, an awareness towards the (de)centralized space, breathing, multi-tasking, continuity and discontinuity, the rhythm in the body and its relation with the music, etc. As a group we unfold the joy of sharing space with others while dancing.

Thursday 16 October,
9.30am-10.45am

Rosalind’s class utilises the breath to let go of muscular tension and re-tune: calming the nervous system and listening to gravity’s pull to find the path of least resistance. In either lying, sitting or standing, I encourage participants to  become aware of tension and encourage connections and channels to open up by facilitating each individual’s capacity for freedom and articulation in the joints.

From here we begin to strengthen, activating core muscle groups yet simultaneously engaging the ability of the muscles to respond with greatest efficiency and effortlessness. At this point the class becomes more dynamic through weight bearing exercises which travel into space.

Longer phrases of movement and choreographic material where the language is defined by an awareness of gravity’s pull, skeletal alignment, joint articulation and democracy of body parts in multiple directions follows. The cardiovascular and muscular systems are activated as well as more space in mind and body.

Friday 17 October,
9.30am-10.45am

This class begins with a dynamic warm-up that enhances body awareness and coordination while utilising the breath to let go of muscular tension and to retune. This is followed by specific movement exercises, where we integrate spatial relation and precision into motion, encouraging participants to become aware of their whole body moving in space.

From an embodied state we will focus on weight shifts, while approaching floor work and weight bearing exercises which travel into space via principles of release technique. Then with longer phrases of movement where the language is defined by an awareness of gravity and momentum, we explore and expand the understanding of one’s own physical mobility to thus find efficiencies in the movement. The cardiovascular, muscular and skeletal systems are activated as well as more space in mind and body.

Wrap Up Glasgow

Human Appeal run a campaign - Wrap Up Glasgow during October & November each year. Here at QPG we have collected coats, jackets, jumpers and warm clothing for the last few years. Would you like to join with us and other organisations donating items for this appeal which runs from now until the beginning of November.

Bagged used items of clothing can be left on the trolley in the church foyer. From there they will be taken to Safestore at Dixon Blazes to be sorted and distributed.
