Pro Class with Maya Bodiley
This is our co-run weekly, morning contemporary class with Barrowland Ballet, for the professional dance community in Glasgow on Thursdays and Fridays. The classes began in 2018 in response to the lack of professional-level contemporary dance classes in the city, providing a space for independent dance artists to come together to train and sustain practice. Pro Class with Maya Bodiley
Thur 20 & Fri 21 November
9.30am-10.45am
Thursday at Queen's Park Baptist Church or "The Point"
Friday at Queens Park Govanhill Parish Church (QPGPC)
Thursday's class: Sharing space, this class fosters a sense of presence, inviting us to fully inhabit our bodies in stillness and in action. We’ll warm from within and follow our curiosity through simple, playful explorations. We’ll keep asking questions with no single answer, gently challenging how we relate to the ground, gravity, and one another.
This class begins with individual guided improvisations to enliven our imaginative landscapes and physical material of our bodies. We will build toward shared movement phrases that encourage us to sense our own physicality through another’s whilst honouring our own desires. The aim is to meet ourselves where we are, open into collective motion, and celebrate the joy in moving together to music.
Friday's class: This morning class is an invitation to you to land in your body, listen to your imagination and be with relationality. We’ll begin by anchoring through the breath, using it as a framework for ease, curiosity, and internal attention. From individual physical investigations, we’ll gradually build toward shared group scores. We’ll dance alone, in pairs, and together, opening our awareness and playful spirit to those around us. Come with what you have, be with what you need, and leave - hopefully - with a bit more spaciousness for all the rest.
Human Appeal run a campaign - Wrap Up Glasgow during October & November each year. Here at QPG we have collected coats, jackets, jumpers and warm clothing for the last few years. Would you like to join with us and other organisations donating items for this appeal which runs from now until the beginning of November. Bagged used items of clothing can be left on the trolley in the church foyer. From there they will be taken to Safestore at Dixon Blazes to be sorted and distributed.
