Residency Sharing: Open Studio with Amy Robertson

14:30–16:30 on 10.07.25
The Work Room studio

Join remote residency artist Amy Robertson in the studio, for a workshop experimenting with scores developed during her remote residency with The Work Room between Feb - July 2025, while returning from maternity leave.

ABOUT

This residency has been an exploration of returning to/discovering my practice as it is now coming out of maternity leave. I have been finding ways to begin and ways to get creativity flowing in whatever pocket of time or space I have available. When my son was around 4 months old I made a score with him; ‘I look here, I look here, I look at you’.

Over the course of my residency I have worked on and developed this score and have created 4 others. The scores are done while parenting, sometimes solo during lengthy naps or when Ren is with his dad but mainly with Ren around or in the score.

My goal was to find ways of keeping my practice alive and simmering away while I’m in this time of intensive parenting. Using small pockets of time or allowing my practice to be present almost like background music in the day to day has been encouraging and freeing. It feels ok, or actually great for practice and creativity to be “secondary” and it is absolutely worth doing it when it's towards nothing because of course it’s never for nothing.

From that low pressure, unscheduled, non-timed place a lot of good stuff has come out. I’m now looking forward to sharing these scores in the studio with others.

OPEN STUDIO / WORKSHOP

To round up this residency I will be taking these scores out of my flat and into the studio. I'd like to open up the time for members to join Ren and I.

We will be working, playing and chatting in the studio from 2.30-4.30, feel free to join us and dance, observe, draw, write, play...
The session is not aimed at children, and while you are so welcome to bring along infants and children, 18 month old Ren will be there, you are super super welcome without them.

2 hours is a long time for an 18 month old so the session will feel more like a sketch book with pauses and changes and interruptions instead of a continuous session.

Not a must, but it would be great to know if you’re coming ahead of time, feel free to drop me an email letting me know and of course feel free to ask any questions you have.
