BEYOND Spring Awards recipients Clarinda Tse & Jian Yi have released a call out for participants to join a series of open-level workshops exploring dance and performance practices inspired by Eastern arts, spirituality and performance traditions. ABOUT
This is a call for participants for our upcoming workshop series exploring live art, performance, contemporary movement and dance practices inspired by Eastern arts / spirituality and performance traditions. The series will consist of 6 workshops (3-4 hrs each session) and will be free to attend.
During these workshops, you will engage in movement-based exercises, be able to share work in process and develop performance practices in a peer-to-peer learning / collective mentoring environment. The workshops will be led by Jian Yi and Clarinda Tse at CCA Glasgow.
There is potential for presenting further development and outcomes from the workshops’ process at this year’s JTTE festival in late September 2023.
Jian & Clarinda are now seeking expressions of interest to join the workshops. This is an open-level workshop
series and we also encourage non-professionals or those perhaps new to arts engagement with different backgrounds, lived experiences and interests, to engage in this creative process.

BIOS
Journey to the East Productions seeks to make direct connection of contemporary work with diverse audiences. Apart from producing the Glasgow-based international JTTE Festival and championing the artist-led model, JTTE Productions also works on producing new touring independent live art/dance/performance works - presenting work by Queer/East Asian creative practitioners and allies, and is committed to offer diverse perspectives on cultural curation. Jian Yi is a multidisciplinary artist and choreographer/director/performer working in performance art, contemporary dance and new genres. Their practice is rooted in an ongoing enquiry into the ambiguities of emotional experience. They seek to explore the experiential trauma of marginalised persons within our society, such as neurodiverse and queer people of colour, and how we reflect on the broader human condition. They are the founder and Artistic Director of JTTE Productions.
Clarinda Tse is an interdisciplinary performance maker, bodyworker and workshop facilitator-learner-sharer, Hong Kong-born and Glasgow-based. Their works embody emergent material ecologies and explore bodies as agency for worlding. They have recently presented for Buzzcut Double Thrills (Sept 2022) and delivered workshop "Micro Moves, open-eyed, tidal body" (May 2023) part of the "Race, Rights, Sovereignty" programme of GSASA and GSA exhibitions.

JTTE Open Workshops are supported with seed funding from The Work Room’s Beyond Fund. Beyond is a seed funding initiative, designed to help nurture and kick start artist led projects which connect more people to dance.
