group reading

monthly-ish workshops at Glasgow Women’s Library, led by Misa Brzezicki

Final workshop on Saturday 30 July

Continuing research developed via The Work Room's residency programme in 2021, member Misa Brzezicki is offering a series of four workshops to members of The Work Room, sharing her practice and research around reading as a live and phyiscal practice.

Moving a solo research process towards a collective enquiry, group reading will be an open space for improvised encounters between bodies, language and meaning. By framing improvisation as a kind of reading, workshops will explore ways to sense, measure, and keep company with ideas.

Using a range of approaches to reading - aloud/in your head, listening, witnessing - the group will be in dialogue with various texts drawn from the Glasgow Women’s Library collection and further afield. The workshops will involve moving, chatting and maybe some writing or drawing. The intensity of movement and amount of information to process will be negotiated as a group. There will be space for rest and reflection, and options to engage with written language beyond reading from a page.

In the final workshop of this series, we will be thinking about...

What books and bodies hold // ways in which they organise themselves - think covers, contents, index // how to carry a library with you

...through dancing, discussing and writing together, and with the help of some texts by Laure Prouvost and Katrina Palmer.

Anyone with an interest in moving and thinking about these ideas together is welcome! You don’t need to have attended a previous workshop to be able to join this session

This is an open and ongoing, informal invitation to members, to propose small scale and one-off artist led activity which encourages sharing of practice and exchange within TWR’s membership. If you have an idea you would like to discuss with a member of TWR team, please email hello@theworkroom.org.uk
