Creative Lab with Vanessa Smith
3-5 January, 2019
10am - 6pm daily
The Work Room member Vanessa Smith, will facilitate a three-day creative workshop at the start of 2019. Vanessa’s background is in dance and choreography, and in recent years she has focused on teaching Pilates and Feldenkrais. In this workshop, she will explore KJ Ho (a Japanese creative problem solving method) as a mechanism for collaboration, taking the creative process out of the hands of the individual, and into the hands of the group.
Each day will begin with the Feldenkrais method to prepare mentally and physically for the day ahead, and will continue, using the method as a physical guide throughout the process. The workshop is intended to facilitate participants in finding new ways to make movement based work. In the same way that visual artists use ʻfoundʼ objects in their work, participants will gather ʻfoundʼ movement, within and around the studio, then utilise the a KJ Ho method in organising this creating routes to making new material. Over the three days, the group will explore these questions… What does it mean to dance? What movements can be included in creative movement human/ non human? How can we use the “found movement” gathered during field work to step outside of old patterns? Can we learn to look with fresh eyes and recognise movement around us?
There are a limited number of places on the workshop for non The Work Room members. The fee for all three days is £40, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to book your place.
