Companion Series: Crip* Coffee Morning
Tramway, 25 Albert Drive & Online
Crip* coffee morning – for members who identify as D/deaf disabled, neurodivergent and/or living with chronic and long-term health conditions
ABOUT
The first of a number of small gatherings with members who self -identify as disabled, neurodivergent and/or experience chronic or long-term health conditions to spend some ‘slow time’ alongside one another in crip* solidarity; sharing experience, challenges; spoons and joy!
*Many self-identifying disabled people, particularly in arts and activism, have reclaimed ‘Crip’ as a term of solidarity, community, and resistance to able-ism; conveying shared understanding, celebration and appreciation of what it is to live in the world as a disabled person. This is the intention with which we use it here.
With each session different members may propose a starting point for a conversation. On Tuesday 29 August, member Stephanie Arsoska will lead us into conversation by sharing a short reflection on her project Letters from the Landscape, and how she developed ways to practice that responded to her health, caring responsibilities and rural location.
The session will be held by Luke Pell & Laura Fisher, who are artist members, part-time members of TWR team. Luke & Laura both identify within ‘Crip’ communities and have different lived experiences of chronic illness, neurodivergence and disability.
Crip* Coffee Morning is part of Companion Series: a raft of coffee mornings and meet-ups, focused conversations, discussions and practical support sessions taking place both online and in-person. Designed with the intention of being complimentary to members practice, the series creates more moments to come together around shared - and different - interests, needs, and lived experience.
