My work

Ian is currently working on an ongoing research project Trees Talk (how we interpret our landscape) together with film-maker Alan paterson and Sound Artist Bill Thompson. He is also developing new performance and fast&Dirty workshops for 2013 onwards. A new commission for SOUND/Dance Live festivals in Aberdeen: Fault Planes premieres Oct 28th followed by 'art meets noise' group SEXTOYS at The Tunnels (Aberdeen) Nov 1st.

Recently commissioned by Eden Court (Pivotel series) for a site-specific work slip/fault this November.

Bio

Australian born, Ian danced and choreographed with The Australian Ballet, Australian Dance Theatre and Dance Company of New South Wales. Moved to London 1977, danced with Richard Alston and Dancers and later Ian Spink Group. In 1982 co-founded Second Stride Dance Company with Siobhan Davies and Richard Alston. From 1988-96, Together with associate director/designer Antony McDonald and composer Orlando Gough he initiated a move in the company's output towards experimental multi-disciplinary dance/music theatre.

Ian's freelance work has included directing and choreographing with: Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, Citizens Theatre, Opera North, Royal Shakespeare Company, Opera Zuid, Royal National Theatre, Rambert Dance Company and Joint Stock. Ian was the Artistic Director of Citymoves Dance Agency Aberdeen (2005-10) and now works as an independent choreographer, workshop deviser and director of Airfield based in Glasgow.
